About Jeff and RachealAnn Loeks:
Jeff and RachelAnn Loeks received Safe Harbor’s annual Salt of The Earth Award for 2024, created to honor an “unsung hero” of the community who has consistently served others with compassion, integrity, humility, and consistency.
The award was created to honor “the salt of the earth’ – someone who is respected, reliable, trustworthy, caring, faithful, and honest – someone who deals with difficult or demanding situations without making unnecessary fuss. The award was created in 2019 to honor Ervin F. and Beverly A. Barrett, parents of Safe Harbor founding attorney Margaret Barrett.
Jeff is passionate about helping others in so many ways. He works security at Regions Hospital in St Paul and as dangerous as that job can be, he is so positive, helpful and reaches out to others to show the needs out there. He has started various charities. I don’t even remember all the names, but he has started a clothing drive/room at Regions to help people who are homeless or don’t have appropriate winter gear to leave the hospital. He does coat drives, sock drives, shoe drives, etc. He has organizations that recognize health care workers who are often underappreciated and in dangerous situations. He has organized times where he stands on a street corner to give hugs to people. He walked with other firefighters from Duluth to White Bear Lake, with fire gear on to raise money for the food shelf. He is also known for his event “Fed to Wed” where he and his wife would not get married unless a truck of donations were filled for the White Bear food Shelf. He helped me start a Diaper Drive at my church, which has now been going on for about 10-12 years. Additional charitable efforts Jeff and RachelAnn are responsible for: Shoe Drive for hospital patients in need, support for wounded police officers, presentation of the “Act of Courage Award” to a police officer who protected healthcare workers, recognition of healthcare workers through the “Citizen of the Year” Award, fundraising for K-9 vests and first aid kits for law enforcement dogs and various food, clothing, and shoe drives for the homeless.
The Salt of The Earth Award came with a donation of $1000 to be given to a charity of Jeff and RachealAnn’s choosing. Jeff and RachealAnn chose Special Teams Charities, a non-profit supporting law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel.
