About Mark and Susan Deiman:

Mark and Susan Deiman with Margaret Barrett

Mark and Susan Deiman received Safe Harbor’s annual Salt of The Earth Award for 2025, created to honor an “unsung hero” of the community who has consistently served others with compassion, integrity, humility, and consistency.

The award was created to honor “the salt of the earth’ – someone who is respected, reliable, trustworthy, caring, faithful, and honest – someone who deals with difficult or demanding situations without making unnecessary fuss. The award was created in 2019 to honor Ervin F. and Beverly A. Barrett, parents of Safe Harbor founding attorney Margaret Barrett.

Mark and his wife are selfless about their compassion toward others. Currently, Mark volunteers providing a weekly bible study at the Stillwater prison for men, at the Anoka County jail for young boys, and for youth at a local farm ministry called Tree Top Kids. Mark has also provided service through mission organizations, on disaster relief for Kentucky tornado cleanup with Eight days of Hope, North Carolina Flood relief with Samaritan’s Purse, plumbing support at The Dwelling Place a women’s shelter in town, and others. Mark also brings the gospel to those at the Sturgis Bike Rally via free bike wash activity and at the State Fair by volunteering at Cross-Roads Chapel. He spends a week a year volunteering at a summer camp for people with disabilities, as a caregiver alongside his wife. And it does not stop there, he has been a sponsor for a Stillwater inmate including allowing him to live in his home, helping get employment, and a car to get back on his feet. That inmate is now studying to be a pastor, what a turn around. Much more could be said that in the end all adds up to love Mark and his wife have for others is an example for us all. Thank you for allowing me to share.

The Salt of The Earth Award came with a donation of $1000 to be given to a charity of Mark and Susan’s choosing. Mark and Susan chose Treetop Kids, a non-profit supporting children and youth living in mobile home communities.

Safe Harbor is thrilled to honor Mark and Susan Deiman for their years of service to those in our community, near and far.
